Even the most skilled roof inspectors are subject to human error. With a drone, however, these typical inaccuracies and inconsistencies can be removed. As part of our roof inspections, you will receive a Full Roof Report that includes pictures of your entire roof, pointing out any areas of concern. Many homeowners get their roofs inspected when preparing to list their homes for sale, and our Full Roof Report is a great tool to pass on to potential buyers. However, even if you are not in the market to sell your home, all roofs eventually wear down over time and are exposed to severe weather. It is important to periodically get your roof evaluated so you are not surprised by any issues that can potentially cause a lot of damage. Hail Damage

iRoof Exteriors has over 20 years of experience dealing with hail and storm damage. Severe storms can damage the entire exterior of your home, from the roof and siding to windows and skylights. The effects of hail damage can differ due to many factors, such as hail size, wind speed, wind direction, roofing material, roof slope, etc. Hail damage can be cosmetic or functional. Some damage that may just look cosmetic at first may lead to serious complications down the road.

Types of hail damage to a roof: –Granule loss: When granules are lost and the asphalt coating is exposed to the elements, the shingle ages quicker. One way to check for granule loss is by looking in your gutters or downspouts after a severe storm. –Shingle cracking: Hail and high winds can cause cracks in your shingles, which can lead to exposure of the underlayment and decking of your roof. Cracked shingles are not effective in protecting your home from the elements. –Weakened self-seal strip: Hail and high winds can weaken or destroy the seal of your shingles, causing them to blow off and exposing your roof. This is a common cause of leaks. –Unprotected and/or cracked asphalt coating: An asphalt shingle is protected with an asphalt coating or fiberglass mat on the layer below the granules. Once severe weather cause granule loss, the coating or mat is exposed to the element. The asphalt coating or fiberglass mat may also crack, which may not immediately be seen but can tear more over time as the shingles age. Depending on the damage, repairing a roof damaged by hail or high winds can be as simple as fixing a small section of shingles, or replacing the full roof. If a storm passes through and you are left with any leaks, we also offer emergency tarp services that will keep you dry until we can quickly perform any repairs or replacement. Please do not go up on the roof yourself. A damaged roof is a dangerous environment and you should call us right away at (815) 315-0508 and let an iRoof Exteriors representative be the first to check it out

Storm Damage

If you think you have storm damage, you need to contact an iRoof Exteriors representative immediately to document the damage. Next, you will need to file a claim with your insurance company. Every insurance provider has different criteria of what qualifies as storm damage. Your insurance will send out an adjuster to inspect the storm damage and document the damaged areas. Your iRoof Exteriors representative will meet with the adjuster as an advocate for you, the homeowner, and make sure that all damage is documented and nothing is missed. Many homeowners get weary of filing a claim for storm damage because they worry their rates will go up. However, most insurance companies raise their rates based off a zip code. If there has been a recent storm that has caused damage to a significant number of homes, the whole zip code will most likely see an increase on rates the following year, regardless of whether they filed a claim or not. RCV Policy? ACV Policy? Depreciation? Insurance can get confusing, but lucky for you iRoof Exteriors has over 20 years experience with home insurance policies. Give iRoof Exteriors a call today and we will take care of everything regarding the insurance company so you don’t have to.

Metal Roofing

Metal roofing has grown in popularity due to its exceptional protection against all elements and durability. A properly installed metal roof has an expected lifespan of 40 to 70 years, and often come with a 30 to 50 year manufacturer’s warranty. They can withstand many elements, including wind gusts of 140 mph. Metal roofs also have rust-proof coatings so they do not crack or corrode. Another reason metal roofs are gaining popularity are because they are environmentally friendly compared to an asphalt shingle, which is a petroleum product. A shingled roof requires replacement approximately every 15 to 20 years, which sends nearly 20 billion pounds of old asphalt shingles to landfills every year according to the Environmental Protection Agency. Here at iRoof Exteriors, we recycle our shingles, which saves them from being sent to a landfill. Recycled shingles are most often ground up and added to the pavement for roads. Metal roofs are energy efficient. Due to their reflective properties, metal roofs can save homeowners in monthly heating and cooling costs. Certain metal roofs come coated with special reflective pigments to minimize heat gain, savings homeowners from cranking up their air conditioner. If you are interested in a metal roof, or would like more information to compare metal roofs to a traditional shingle roof, give iRoof Exteriors a call and one of our representatives would be happy to assist you in making your decision.
